It has been a while since I have put quill to parchment, but I must share a rather interesting encounter recently. I was making my way towards the lands around Sanctuary, when I encountered two small bands in the midst of a fight. On one side was a few scattered remnants of the Red Faction, Imperials that still hold on dearly to the old ways on the other side of the Seal, and on the other, an equally-sized group of Blue Raiders, a formerly large group of roving bandits. One thing that seemed missing in the ranks of the Blue Raiders was their Marauder’s, a fact that the Red Faction immediately took note of as they charged forth into their opponents. To this writing, I have no idea what they were fighting about, but both sides in this now-deadly conflict seemed driven by equal parts desperation and survival instinct. I wisely kept my distance, but still able to observe the conflict. My guess as to their hostilities would perhaps have been a power vacuum, since neither side really seemed to have any organized leadership as they clashed and began to kill one another. Then suddenly, a new faction entered this newly-christened field of battle, in the form of a gigantic Earth Elemental. The creature burst almost in the middle of the ground in-between the two groups, and just as much as the other combatants, seemed to be just lashing out at anything. What happened next, I will spare you the details, lest it ruin whatever food or drink you may be consuming while you read this, but let’s just say that the Elemental was the only one remaining when all the dust cleared in the fight. In the end, the creature seemed somewhat lost and possibly confused, if such a thing is possible for an elemental, and it just wandered off from the now-devastated area…perhaps nature abhorred this vacuum as well. I quickly moved in the opposite direction.
A quick side note before I finish this article, but I do owe my readers in Sanctuary a sincere apology. Apparently, some time ago, someone appeared in Sanctuary claiming they were me. Since I have not set foot in Sanctuary in almost a year and a half or more, I can promise my friends and readers that false brigand was not me. My thanks to the passing merchants who shared this information with me, so I may set the record straight on this matter.
Until next time, may your arrows stay sharp and you always hit your mark.
