A Soulburned Perspective

A few years ago now, there was a situation inside the Seal where the one known as The Candlemaker went missing. The call came out from beyond, and a few of us at the time in Sanctuary were called upon to carry the burden of missing entity’s work. The ones that called were myself, The Captain, Amaros, and Ventusi. The interesting part of this was by accepting this temporary power, our existences were switched; The living became undead (Myself and Amaros) and the undead became alive once more (Ventusi and The Captain). The main tasking we undertook was in passing final verdict on the passing of souls as far as where they would end up the afterlife. We had four different cases, older souls floating in-between their final passings, due mainly to the disruption of The Candlemaker’s realm of influence at the time of her disappearance. The four of us held council, while creating and burning a combination of different types of candles and tasked to keep their flames lit while each of the four souls gave their testimony as far as where they wanted to and ultimately deserved to be placed in their respective afterlives. It was a long and tedious process, mainly complicated by trying to monitor the flames while still trying to make the best judgements for each of the souls we worked with. In the end, each seemed to be given their right placement by our small council. A series of other long research and questing eventually led to the return of the true Candlemaker, and our respective new taskings were no longer needed, as we were returned to our original conditions. We were left with a condition to each one of us as a result of all of this…Soulburned. Having walked the fine line of being both mortal and undead, feeling the range of sensations from what can actually be felt from both the living and dead and remembering the brief touch of wielding divine-level power during that time not that long ago, I can’t help but wonder what is going through the minds of the various Forsaken now loose upon the world. Could it be possible to understand and communicate with some of them from the perspective of a sort of common ground held between myself and them? Time will tell, I suppose.
